FAX FROM Sue to Bruce, 2 May 1994

I am going to visit Shelagh in England on 23 May, and as you won’t be there I’ll come home the next night. I caught a documentary on ABC on Anzac Day about the fall of Singapore. It has some film of the nurses in Singapore – several of them are recognisable as those who died in the Bangka Island massacre. I’m getting a copy for you.

I sent Betty Jeffrey the Meader Giles script, and spoke to her while I was in Melbourne. She said a lot of it is very silly, and she is making notes for me. She is very anxious to show you some of her treasures when you visit.

Now, The Trip. Tom and I have booked a holiday in Broome from 10 July for a week, and I can’t change that. So I dearly want our AVCO business out of the way before then.

FAX FROM Bruce to Sue, 3 May 1994

I’m going to England this Sunday for two weeks (they’re doing pre-mixes) so if you could move your meeting with Shelagh forward a few days I’ll be able to see her with you.

Some new complications. It is possible (by no means definite) that I’ll do a film as an alternative to the Marilyn one. Relax, as this doesn’t mean it’ll take up any more time than the Marilyn one, and won’t affect my doing the Voice script beforehand.

I’ve been offered a number of projects here and two of them are interesting. Bridges of Madison County is with Clint Eastwood, with Spielberg producing, and might be foolish to turn down provided I can be convinced that the script might work. I’m certainly dubious about this right now, but have meetings with them this Thursday and Friday. This would shoot September–October (which is actually before the shooting period of the Marilyn film) and would be finished fairly early next year.

There is no way I’ll do any other project before Voice except one of these two, and I’ll know by the end of the week. Even Lenny recognises the Voice commitment and I’ve heard him telling people I’ll be working in Australia.

Good news about the success of Sirens. John is the talk of the town here at the moment and could do almost anything he wanted. His price must’ve gone up considerably.
